First Aid Treatment in Case of Acid Swallowed by Student

Aim:

To study and understand the first aid measures to be taken in case of accidental swallowing of acid in the laboratory.

Principle:

Acids are highly corrosive substances that can cause severe damage to the mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach. Immediate first aid helps to reduce injury, prevent complications, and stabilize the affected person until medical help arrives.

Apparatus/Materials Required:

  • Clean drinking water

  • Milk (if available)

  • First aid kit

  • Emergency contact number

  • Protective gloves

Procedure (First Aid Steps):

  1. Stay calm and ensure safety of the affected student.

  2. Do NOT induce vomiting, as acid can cause more damage while coming back.

  3. Rinse the mouth immediately with plenty of water (do not swallow).

  4. Give small sips of water or milk to dilute the acid.

  5. Do not give any neutralizing chemicals (like alkali), as it may produce heat and worsen injury.

  6. Loosen tight clothing and keep the student comfortable.

  7. Seek immediate medical attention or call emergency services.

Observations:

Condition ObservedAction Taken
Burning sensation in mouth/throatRinsed with water
Difficulty in swallowingGiven small sips of water/milk
Pain and irritationMedical help called

Result:

First aid measures for acid ingestion were studied and understood successfully to minimize harm and ensure safety.
