First Aid Treatment in Case of Bromine Inhalation

Aim:

To study and understand the first aid measures to be taken in case of accidental inhalation of bromine vapors in the laboratory.

Principle:

Bromine is a highly toxic and corrosive chemical that releases harmful vapors. Inhalation can irritate the respiratory tract, causing coughing, breathing difficulty, and lung damage. Immediate first aid reduces exposure and prevents serious health effects.

Apparatus/Materials Required:

  • Fresh air source / well-ventilated area

  • Face mask

  • Oxygen supply (if available)

  • First aid kit

  • Emergency contact number

Procedure (First Aid Steps):

  1. Immediately remove the affected person from the contaminated area to fresh air.

  2. Keep the person calm and at rest in a comfortable position.

  3. Loosen tight clothing to help breathing.

  4. If breathing is difficult, provide oxygen (if available).

  5. If the person is not breathing, start artificial respiration (CPR).

  6. Avoid further exposure to bromine vapors.

  7. Seek immediate medical attention without delay.

Result:

First aid measures for bromine inhalation were studied and understood to minimize respiratory damage and ensure safety.
